Tutorial KaleidoGlitter 09-14-06 ©RuthArt 1st Part
This is the eventual tag that will be created for this tut, but the 1st part is only about the Kaleidoscope background. Hosted on FotkiThis tutorial is my own creation since I love using the Kaleidoscope effect, vectors and glitter or noise. Have fun with it.
1. New canvas…400x500x100 dpi transparent raster
2. Choose your tube and place it on a new layer, resize so that it fits nicely within the borders, sharpen if needed. Hosted on Fotki 3. Pick 2 colors from it, one very light and one very dark
The colors I chose: Forground 093363 Dark Blue Background 55BCF4 Light Blue
4. With your 2 colors chosen, you will now have a new gradient made. Go to gradient and find the Background/Foreground (or Foreground/Background) gradient.
5a. First gradient layer….make your settings like shown: dark portion of gradient at the bottom, fill one layer, this will be your Horizontal Layer. It may be a good idea to label your layers for now.Hosted on Fotki5b. Second gradient layer….make your settings like shown: the dark portion will now be on the left, fill one layer, this will be your Vertical Layer above the Horizontal layer.Hosted on FotkiYou now have 2 separate layers with gradient fills labeled with Horizontal and Vertical (above Horizontal) so you know which ones to apply the next step to.
6. Each of these gradient layers will get the effect Blinds applied to it, the numbers being the same. The Horizontal gradient layer will get the vertical blind effect (Horizontal box is left unticked, Light from left/top is ticked), and the Vertical gradient layer will get the horizontal blind effect added (Horizontal boxed ticked.)Make your Horizontal Gradient layer active and apply Effects, Texture Effects, Blinds Hosted on Fotkiwith the setting shown below which will give you a vertical blind effect.Hosted on FotkiNow make your Vertical Gradient layer active and apply Effects, Texture Effects, Blinds and make the settings as shown to give you a horizontal blind effect (leave the light setting the way it was and just click on Horizontal)Hosted on FotkiHere we have the results of applying Blinds to each layerHosted on Fotki7. Now we are going to apply the Kaleidoscope Effect to both of the gradient layers using the same settings. Effects, Reflection Effects, Kaleidoscope Hosted on FotkiUse these settings for both layersHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiThis is what your different layers should look like nowHosted on Fotki8. The layer labeled Vertical, should be above the Horizontal layer, now you need to set the blend mode to screen to see the effect of both of them together. At this point, I make sure they are the only two layers open, then copy merge and paste as a new layer. Also, apply Effects, Edge Effects, EnhanceHosted on FotkiHosted on Fotkiand this is what you should have nowHosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiThank you for taking the time to do this tut. I hope to work on Part 2 (vectors and noise/glitter) soon
